Geo Days is the International Business Convention organised by AVENIA (the French competitiveness cluster representing, overseeing and federeting 215 members) and dedicated to subsurface industries.

The 2023 edition, which took place in Pau-France from the 19th to the 21st of June, aimed to give a contribution to mobilizing subsurface stakeholders in building a powerful and sovereign European industry.

Through conferences, B2B meetings, and thematic sessions, the goal was to draw a “Subsurface innovation” roadmap on the 2030 horizon, from bringing solutions for decarbonisation to secure the supplies of mining and energy resources, from managing the wide demands in water to accompanying a territory’ land use planning.

The ESRF team, made by the Business Developer Athanasios Papazoglou and the Beamline Scientist Benoit Cordonnier, attended this important event by presenting not only the high-level synchrotron services and the latest innovation (with Benoit’s speech on Unearthing the Energy Revolution: X-ray Geology New Frontiers at ESRF”), but also by explaining all the collaboration opportunities with the European synchrotron.

Before giving his presentation at the conference, Benoit stated:

These are inspiring times as we showcase the capabilities of the European synchrotron to propel our industrial landscape forward, paving the way for innovative solutions in decarbonization, exploring new energy resources, and effectively tackling the challenges of the water crisis. Individuals who have devoted their careers to enhancing our modes of production and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our planet. I could not be more enthusiastic to support such a task.

Attending Geodays provided an exceptional opportunity for exchanging knowledge, exploring state-of-the-art technologies, gaining insights into the current industry challenges, and cultivating dynamic collaborations. ESRF has the potential to emerge as a major player in tackling the energy transition challenge” – commented Athanasios.

The ESRF team’s participation at GEO DAYS 2023 was supported by the Streamline project.
